Tips for Nourishing your body and staying active While Traveling
Traveling is my favorite way to get out of my bubble, get inspired and stir up some creativity. to be honest I used to be terrified to get out of my routine with working out and my nutrition while traveling because i felt like all the hard work i’ve put into myself would go out the window. I know many women who have expressed they felt the same way when traveling. With a little planning and some clever strategies, i have learned you can enjoy nutritious meals and stay on track with getting movement in, even on the road! Here are my top tips for eating healthy while traveling, inspired by my own experiences.
Stock up on essentials
As soon as I reach my destination, I like to make a quick stop at a local grocery store. This allows me to grab a few essentials that will keep me nourished throughout my trip. Breakfast is the meal i like to have on my own at the place i am staying, then for lunch and dinner i like to enjoy out when im exploring. Here’s what I typically look for when shopping for the essentials:
Breakfast items: grass-fed yogurt, pasture raised eggs, avocado.
Snacks: I love having fresh fruit, raw cheese, seaweed, wild caught canned fish or a beef stick on hand.
Beverages: Organic coffee, organic half and half, spring water, sparkling water.
Enjoy Dining Out Mindfully
While I love to prepare meals, I also appreciate the experience of dining out. It’s a wonderful way to explore local cuisines. One memorable night, I treated myself to lamb chops paired with a glass of organic red wine from France. Here are some tips for choosing healthy options when eating out:
Research restaurants: Before you travel, check out local eateries with healthy menus. Look for places that focus on fresh, organic ingredients.
proteins: Choose dishes featuring grilled, baked, or roasted proteins, steak, fish, or lamb.
Ask for modifications: Don’t hesitate to request changes, like dressing on the side or substituting sides for more vegetables.
Stay Hydrated
Traveling can be dehydrating, especially if you’re flying. i Always carry a refillable water bottle and a good quality electrolyte power like LMnt or have a mineral salt on hand to sprinkle a pinch into my water. Herbal teas are also a great way to add warmth and comfort while traveling!
movement
my favorite way to explore a new place is by walking or getting a little jog in. it’s important to listen to your body especially after traveling but i find whenever i get some movement into my travel routine i feel energized and lighter plus my modd instantly changes for the better. some ways i like to get movement in:
morning walk i will listen to a podcast or some uplifting tunes. i typically will walk for an hour.
afternoon jog before dinner time. this literally makes me have so much energy and feel alert before dinner. i will try to run 20-30 minutes.
4 rounds of 40 sqauts, 20 push up, 40 sit ups, 45 second plank. this is so simple yet so effective if you don’t feel like leaving your aribnb or hotel and gets the job done!
30 minutes of yoga anywhere, this could be on the beach, in your hotel or in a park nearby!
Traveling doesn’t have to derail your health and wellness goals. By planning ahead and making mindful choices, you can enjoy delicious food and movement while still prioritizing your well-being.
